The price of 2008 Chateau Mouton Rothschild has nearly doubled since the vineyard announced a Chinese artist had designed the label, it has been revealed.
Depicting the Chateau Mouton Rothschild sheep emblem stood between two half moons, the image was created by Xu Lei.
According to Decanter, the wine is now trading at £7,898 per case - an 85.7 per cent increase on its October value and a 192.5 per cent rise on November 2009.
Renowned Chinese calligrapher Gu Gan, who has several works on display in the British Museum and is president of the Society of Modern Calligraphy and Painting, has also previously designed a label for Chateau Mouton Rothschild, which adorned the 1996 vintage.
It is not just designer labels that can increase the price of Bordeaux - Bloomberg noted recently that use of radio-frequency identification systems that can ensure the provenance of the wine can make it more valuable.
