Chateau Margaux sends representative to reside in Hong Kong
The son of chateau Margaux's managing director is to spend at least two years in Hong Kong serving as an ambassador for the vintner in this growing market.
Thibault Pontallier, 24, is following the lead of chateau Petrus' Jean Moueix, who spent six months in the city in 2008, while Sascha Lichine of chateau d'Esclans has announced a permanent move, decanter.com reports.
He will travel throughout the region to forge relationships with distributors and collectors, as well as attending select tastings.
The emigrations have been seen as further indications that Bordeaux is taking seriously the Chinese appetite for fine wines, after prominent US auctioneer Acker Merrall & Condit said it plans to open a shop in Hong Kong in 2011.
Last month's Vinexpo, which was held in Hong Kong, attracted more than 9,500 wine and spirits professionals from around the world, with French wines accounting for nearly half of the floor space.
