Chateau Latour was declared "wine of the night" at a Christie's celebration of the 1990 vintage earlier this year, marking its second decade.
Amanda Crawford, a wine specialist for the auction house, also tasted her way through Mouton Rothschild, Pavie, Cos d'Estournel, La Mission Haut-Brion and many more Bordeaux, concluding that 1990 is a "drink or hold year", the Drinks Business reports.
The peak drinking window for the vintage is between now and the next ten years, with Mouton Rothschild 1990 judged to be at its zenith - it "does not have the life expectancy of its first growth brethren, but was ripe and round and very forward", the expert said.
A hot year, large crop and early approachability makes 1990 a vintage unsuitable for long-term aging in general, Ms Crawford added.
Those interested in sampling what the vintage has to offer may be keen on the upcoming Sotheby's Hong Kong auction in October. According to Art Daily, 17 cases of Haut Brion 1990 and ten cases of Margaux 1990 are set to go under the hammer.
