Chateau Lafite Rothschild is looking to capitalise on its popularity with Asian wine lovers by placing a Chinese symbol on its bottles.
The symbol for the number eight - considered to be an extremely lucky number in Chinese culture - will be inscribed above the iconic label on all bottles and magnums of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 2008, Decanter magazine notes.
A spokesperson for Chateau Lafite Rothschild told the publication that the symbol would mark the start of its new Chinese project - and as a happy coincidence the symbol seemed to perfectly mimic the slopes of its famous vineyard.
"We wanted to remind all those who will have the pleasure of drinking these wines in a few years of this exciting undertaking," the spokesperson added.
The Drinks Business recently revealed that Bordeaux 2008 is still very affordable.
Although it is a vintage that pleased wine critics such as Robert Parker, the fact that the en primeur release came at the depths of the financial downturn affected values.
The publication noted that Chateau Lafite Rothschild 2008 is 31 per cent less expensive than the 2000 vintage.
