Chateau d'Yquem 'is built to last two centuries'

A wine collector who owns every vintage of chateau d'Yquem from 1811 to the present day has spoken of his passion for wine - and Swiss cheese.

In an interview with the Huffington Post, Jean-Claude Biver, chief executive officer of the Hublot luxury watch company, said d'Yquem is made to last for over 200 years as it is a Sauternes.

"My kids will drink it, and the kids of my kids will drink it," he said.

"I tried a 1775 bottle of my chateau d'Yquem. You cannot believe."

But his tastes are not limited to wine - Mr Biver is an avid fan of cheese, which ties in with his own business in an unexpected way.

He explained to the newspaper that after the Reformation, French Protestants arriving in Switzerland would give farmers jobs polishing watch parts. They soon found this more profitable than making cheese.

Mr Biver himself produces around five tonnes of cheese per year at his farm in the Swiss Alps.
