Chassagne Montrachet has joined the ecological evolution of viticulture by installing a biological platform for cleaning wine spray.
This year the Burgundy estate will be upholding its environmental commitments by cleaning their gear spray and reprocessing their waste in a sustainable way. The move comes as mounting pressure is being put on vineyards to protect the environment in historically renowned areas such as Burgundy. Meursault, Volnay and Vosne Romanee Chassagne now all use similar platforms.
The biological platform takes the remnants of spray which are then applied in two concrete tanks filled with a mixture of mud and straw which allows the water to evaporate and degrade pollutants in soil.
In an accessible area, the platform is located behind the dump, in a large covered area of ??293 metres squared, built on a plot of 2,400 metres squared and will be sold cheaply by the municipality. It will be used by 30 of the 32 areas that make up Chassagne Montrachet.
