Champagne sales boost profits for LVMH

Demand for vintage champagne has helped to drive sales for one of France's leading luxury brand groups.

LVMH has announced that sales in the wines and spirits market have jumped by 22 per cent to €2.15 billion (£1.88 billion) during the first nine months of 2010, compared to the same period last year.

According to a statement from the firm, demand for luxury champagne labels such as Moet & Chandon, Krug and Dom Perignon was a key factor in the spike in revenue, with Asian consumers showing a particular interest.

"The excellent performance of LVMH in the first nine months of the year has confirmed its confidence for 2010," the statement continued.

Total revenue for the group now exceeds €14 billion (£12.3 billion) so far this year.

Charles Heidsieck Champagne recently agreed a deal to sell to Charlie Vintage 1979 and 1981 through the retailer Aelia at Paris' Charles De Gaulle Airport.
