Leading drinks company Remy Cointreau is to sell its Champagne labels in a bid to raise extra capital, it has been announced.
The Piper-Heidsieck and Charles Heidsieck brands have been offered up to investors as Remy Cointreau looks to dedicate more funds to its cognac business.
Although the labels do carry a level of prestige in the champagne world, they have not been commercially successful in recent times, posting a loss of €4 million (£3.4 million) last year.
For this reason, analysts do not expect the brands to attract much interest from Champagne big-hitters such as LVMH, the owners of Moet & Chandon and Dom Perignon.
Last month, Charles Heidsieck announced it would be selling 1979 and 1981 cuvees through travel retailer Aelia at Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport, the first agreement of its kind between an airport retailer and a Champagne house.
