Champagne Jacquart has invited the UK's young sommeliers and chefs to participate in its Rising Stars competition, which aims to find the best two-person hospitality team aged under 35.

Now in its fourth year, the competition will consist of a paper judging round, after which eight teams will make it through to the grand finale at the Competition Theatre of The Restaurant Show in London on October 10th, Harpers Wine and Spirit reports.

"The competition is a must for the UK on-trade as it puts both the sommelier and the chef together," said wine writer and former competition judge Susy Atkins.

Gerard Basset MW, the UK's leading sommelier who was recently awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list, added that the event is a "great opportunity to bring the industry to life".

"This is an aspirational award and it encourages people who work in restaurants to raise their game," he added.
