Champagne is becoming increasingly popular with UK drinkers, according to the latest figures.
The Champagne Information Bureau (CIB) has announced that sales volumes from the UK jumped in the last 12 months, Harper Wine and Spirit Trades Review reports.
Shipment volumes delivered to the UK were up by 16.3 per cent to 35.5 million bottles in 2010, when compared to the previous year.
The data, which confirms Britain's place as Champagne's premier export market, was released as the CIB celebrated its annual tasting in London this week.
Major industry figures Bruno Paillard, president of the commission communication & appellation CIVC, and Andrew Hawes, chairman of the UK Champagne Agents' Association, were at the event.
A total of 250 wines from 83 producers were showcased at the tasting.
Champagne estate Salon recently unveiled its latest vintage at a separate event in London.
The Salon 1999 was unveiled with traditional British fish and chips at Geales fish restaurant in the capital.
