After a spate of vineyard purchases in Bordeaux by Chinese nationals, attention has now switched to Burgundy.
This change in attitude began in the auction houses of Hong Kong, with Domaine de la Romanee-Conti now the hottest property in the region.
Now that has translated to the land itself, with 28-year-old businessman Shi Yi becoming the first Chinese national to purchase a vineyard in the area, Decanter reports.
Local grower has been working with Mr Yi for the last six months, and has now sold him two hectares of vineyard in Vosne-Romanee.
Kyriakos Kynigopoulos, Greek wine consultant and owner of Burgundia Oenology, told Decanter: "The Burgundians are very close to their wines, and it is extremely unusual to have a foreigner buying vines.
"Even the arrival of the Bordelais in Vosne-Romanee raised a few eyebrows."
Chinese nationals now own around 20 different vineyards in Bordeaux.
