The Burgundy wine trade association has cancelled the 2012 edition of its annual tasting session.

Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bourgogne (BIVB) said the cancellation is part of a review of its activities in the UK.

The group still values the UK market highly, and insists that this review will lead to a more effective presence in Britain.

"Depending on the results, we will craft a new campaign which more accurately reflects the needs and wants of the UK wine market, as well as those of the producers and negociants in Burgundy," the BIVB statement explained.

Those missing out on the UK tasting are invited to take a trip across the channel to attend March's Grands Jours de Bourgogne event instead.

Just last month, the BIVB made a strategic decision to concentrate marketing for Chablis on the UK market, as sales have almost matched those enjoyed back in France, exceeding 10.3 million bottles.
