Burgundy is the place to be for a wine holiday

Wine enthusiasts looking to combine their passion with a summer holiday may wish to consider a trip to the vineyards of Burgundy.

A survey for AskMen.com has revealed that Burgundy is the number one holiday destination for drinkers looking for a wine-related vacation, Reuters reports.

The site says that of particular interest to travellers is the Cote d'Or, or the Golden Slope, along with the chance to taste wines such as Domaine de la Romanee Conti in their natural setting.

Next on the list of top destinations for oenophiles, the news provider notes, is the Champagne region of France.

The chance to taste Super Tuscans direct from the vineyard pushed Tuscany into the top-three, edging out Bordeaux into fourth spot.

Perhaps the strangest place to enjoy a glass of fine wine is at the top of the world's highest peak, Mount Everest.

English climber Alan Hinkes is aiming to scale the mountain and enjoy a glass of fine French wine with some parmesan and prosciutto ham at the top.
