Rock musician David Coverdale has revealed he has a long-held passion for fine wine.
The former Deep Purple and Whitesnake singer told Wine Spectator that he has a particular fondness for Burgundy, with Puligny Montrachet and Chassagne Montrachet being his all-time favourites.
Growing up in the north of England in the 1950s, Coverdale was not exposed to wine until he went to art school, and it was not until he became an international star that he had the opportunity to try the finest Bordeaux and Burgundy.
"Flying all over the world in private planes and dining in Paris with 13 knives and forks on either side of the place setting, I was introduced to an astonishing array of wines," he told the publication.
Coverdale may well enjoy Burgundy 2010. Experienced American Wine Society member Dave DeSimone (Pittsburgh Tribune) recently suggested that the region will produce some very high quality wines, despite difficult growing conditions this year.
