Burgundy estate looks to future to compete with new world

One Burgundy estate is embracing new technology in a bid to bring wine into the 21st century.

Maison Joseph Drouhin may be a 131-year-old vineyard from old world Burgundy, but it is determined to remain as dynamic and cutting edge as any new world label.

To help achieve this, the Burgundy estate has just introduced the Quick Response (QR) system to the labelling of its vintages.

This allows those equipped with a smartphone to scan the back of the label and get a host of information about the wine, tasting notes, and a background on the vineyard itself.

However, this is not the only change to winemaking undertaken by Maison Joseph Drouhin. The estate has also made its bottles ten per cent lighter, in order to reduce its carbon footprint.

Maison Joseph Drouhin can also look forward to high demand for its 2009 vintage.

Daily Telegraph wine critic Victoria Moore recently praised the quality of 2009 Burgundy, saying that it has produced quality wines from all appellations.
