The Bordeaux Wine Bureau (CIVB) is looking to set up a new wine school in China, it has been revealed.
According to Xiamen Economic Daily, the body is now looking for corporate partners to help with financing the institute and covering its operating costs.
Once completed, the Xiamen school will train professionals and enthusiasts on each and every nuance of centuries of Bordeaux winemaking, to consolidate the region's position in the Chinese wine sector.
The CIVB president Alain Vironneau recently told a press conference that China is now the number one client for Bordeaux outside of the European Union.
According to the latest figures from the CIVB, China and Hong Kong imported 33.5 million bottles of Bordeaux in 2010, at a total cost of €415 million (£252 million).
Renowned auction house Christie's has also confirmed that the Far East is now its primary market for sales of fine Bordeaux and Burgundy.
