Fine Bordeaux wine's investment potential in has been further highlighted by the double-digit returns of one fund.
The Wine Investment Fund, which invests in Bordeaux brands such as Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Chateau Latour and Chateau Mouton Rothschild, has announced an annual return of 14.8 per cent.
Director Rodney Birrell told the Royal Gazette that the company has worked hard to develop a proven track record of investment, leading to the acquisition of assets worth £50 million.
Mr Birrell went on to explain that Bordeaux wine's biggest strength as an investment opportunity is the fact that is immune to many of the volatile aspects of the market.
"In 2008 [following the financial collapse] we recouped five percent within three to four months, compared to the stock markets, which fell 30 to 40 percent and are still recovering," he told the publication.
David Diesslin, chairman and chief executive officer of financial advisory firm Diesslin & Associates, recently suggested that the best way to approach wine investment is as a way to subsidise consumption of fine bottles.
