Asian interest in Bordeaux wine has helped France to regain its position as number one wine producer in the world.
A study conducted by London-based International Wine and Spirit Research (IWSR) found that France produced 419 million cases of wine in 2010, dislodging Italy from top spot on the list, Agence France-Presse reports.
It is expected that production levels in France will fall by 5.54 per cent by 2014, yet despite this, the IWSR believes that France will retain first position in the list.
In addition, the study found that global wine consumption continued to slow between 2005 and 2009, although the rate of decline fell to 1.4 per cent per year during this period, the news agency notes.
The distribution of France's wine produce also appears to be changing.
Research from the Bordeaux Wine Council suggests that China is set to overtake Germany as the biggest importer of Bordeaux wine.
