An auction of top Bordeaux and Burgundy wines in Hong Kong has generated more than £7.6 million.
The collection of nearly 11,000 bottles, billed as the "ultimate wine collection" by auction house Sotheby's, included a number of prime vintages of Chateau Haut Brion and Chateau Petrus from Bordeaux.
However, it was the Burgundy estate Domaine de la Romanee Conti that was the star attraction for buyers, with 12 bottles of the 1990 vintage going to one collector for £143,000.
Sotheby's worldwide head of wine Serena Sutcliffe described it to the Wall Street Journal as the "greatest collection of Domaine de la Romanee Conti ever sold".
The auction was completed over three days, and the auction house confirmed that the bidding was again dominated by Asian collectors.
Sotheby's will be pleased with the result of the auction, having predicted late last month that the wine sale could gross as much as £6.15 million.
