The "smoky, elegant" Chateau Pontet-Canet 2010 is one of the top deals of this year's Bordeaux en primeur campaign, Bloomberg's Elin McCoy has said.
Pontet-Canet is situated beside Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux, and while it may not have the international prestige of its neighbour, Mr McCoy says it is one of the more affordable highlights of the 2010 campaign.
Meanwhile, the "sensational" Grand-Puy-Lacoste is a similarly good buy, while the wine writer noted that this year's Ducru-Beaucaillou is "stunning" and is currently selling for less than the 2009.
Mr McCoy went on to recommend Chateaux Calon-Segur, Gruaud Larose, Giscours and Pedesclaux as "excellent wines trading at fair prices", as well as Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou's second label La Croix.
The ever-rising price of Bordeaux had been well documented in this year's campaign, and several journalists have given their opinions on the best wines to be found at the lower end of the price scale.
Will Lyons of the Wall Street Journal recommended Chateau Lacoste Borie, the second wine of Grand-Put-Lacoste, as a "splendid Pauillac" that can be bought by the case without breaking the bank.
