Auction house Bonhams is to hold its first fine wine sale in New York on October 16th, taking the number of houses holding wine sales in the city to six.
The sale will feature some of the top vintages of Bordeaux and Burgundy, including a case of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1982 that is expected to achieve up to $40,000 (£25,000), wine magazine Decanter reports.
As Bonhams bids to make an impact in America, the sale will be simulcast in Los Angeles, as well as in San Francisco where there will be a second auctioneer.
"The Bonhams Group views the continued growth of the New York sale room as a key part of its international expansion," Richard Pike, the firm's New York wine and whisky director, told the publication.
Meanwhile, Chateau Lafite Rothschild is due to put 2,000 bottles from its private cellar up for sale at Sotheby's auction house in Hong Kong, the Wall Street Journal reported earlier this week.
