A major Chinese retailer has said it will shift its focus to the Right Bank of Bordeaux, particularly Pomerol wines such as Chateau Petrus.
Decanter reports that Aussino Cellars believes that Grand Cru wines have set their prices dangerously high, prompting it to favour "good value, high quality" wines from the Right Bank.
"As our consumers become more and more educated about wine, they will realise that they are buying over-heated brands, and we want to offer them wines with stability," Grace Cai of Aussino told the publication.
She went on to say that problems with selling the higher-end wines, such as the ever-popular Lafite, are being compounded by forgeries and large numbers of importers competing for the same brands.
Recently, Shanghai-based merchant Don St Pierre Jr told Decanter that he believes larger allocations and an earlier release would have helped the Bordeaux en primeur 2010 campaign in China.
