Growing investor interest in fine wines across Asia has not been isolated to Bordeaux First Growths such as Chateau Lafite Rothschild, according to industry experts.
Speaking to WineAlley.com, the Regional Council for Development's Asian export manager, Catherine Machabert, explained that sales of wine in China from the Languedoc-Roussillon region have increased dramatically in recent years.
She told the website: "We're second behind the Bordeaux wine region. Even in value, our sales exceed those of Burgundy."
However, the value of Burgundy should not be underestimated, with well-regarded wine from the region still proving popular in auctions across Asia.
Earlier this month, investors forked out a collective $5.6 million (£3.5 million) at a Sotheby's auction of wines owned by composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, held in Hong Kong.
A rare six-bottle case of Burgundy 1996 Domaine de la Romanee Conti was one of the more high profile lots, eventually selling for $55,846 (£35,350).
