Are fine wine apps the future? Perhaps not…
Wine lovers on the go may be tempted to use an iPhone app to pick out the perfect bottle of Latour for their meal - but are they worth the time and effort?
In a Daily Telegraph article, Jonathan Ray described his experience with a number of apps following a brief tutorial from a more tech-savvy friend and found many of the more popular programs wanting, at least in comparison with a plain old Google search.
Cellar is a "fun" app for "trainspotters", Mr Ray advised, tending more towards storing info than giving advice, while Pair It - a utility for matching food to wine - proved too general for his tastes.
Meanwhile, Wine Findr and Wine Guide were both "infuriating", providing far too little specialist information for the serious wine aficionado.
However, those who trust their own judgement and are just looking for social occasions to attend may look to LocalWineEvents.com's new app, which promises to find food and drinks events wherever the user is in the world.
