The prices released during the Bordeaux en primeur 2010 campaign are in accordance with what the market wants, according to Bordeaux mayor and French foreign minister Alain Juppe.
Speaking to Decanter.com at the opening of Vinexpo, Mr Juppe maintained that this year's wines are "actually great value", following a number of pricings that were significantly above those of the 2009 vintage.
Meanwhile, French agriculture minister Bruno Le Maire offered his opinions on proposals to liberalise planting laws in the country, which would increase the amount of wine produced in the European Union.
"I am against this liberalisation, and I know Alain Juppe is as well," he told the publication.
"It will not help European and French growers achieve their aims of competing on a world scale with wines of the highest quality."
Alain Juppe's appointment as French foreign minister was announced in February this year, and was welcomed by Bordeaux's wine producers.
