US-based auction house Acker Merrall & Condit has reported its second consecutive monthly internet auction has generated in excess of $1 million (£615,000) in sales, in a development it says reflects rebounding confidence in the wine economy.
John Kapon, president and auction director of Acker Merrall & Condit, said new wine enthuisiasts are increasingly turning to the internet to build their collections.
"As the internet is playing an increasingly vital role in the fine wine market every year, we are looking forward to re-launching our website in late 2011," he added.
Mr Kapon was speaking ahead of the company's recent New York auction, which featured a variety of vintages from Domaine de la Romanee Conti, including La Tache 1962, 1964 and 1971.
A single bottle of Chateau Latour 1893 also went under the hammer at the New York auction, with an estimated value of between $2,400 and $3,500 (£1,500 and £2,150).
