Wine enthusiasts will find that the 2008 vintage offers the best value for money in Bordeaux.
This is the view of Alain Moueix, president of the Association de Grands Crus Classes de Saint-Emilion, who told the Drinks Business that 2008's low prices are related to the global financial crisis.
Mr Moueix explained that the en primeur release of 2008 Bordeaux came to the market when the economic crisis was at its peak, and subsequently sold for much lower values than vintners were expecting.
Since then, prices have not fully recovered, and the expert believes there are still many good value wines in 2008 Bordeaux.
"They are not so deep but they are very charming and approachable and elegant and fine and nice to drink today," Mr Moueix told the publication.
Olivier Bernard of Bordeaux estate Domaine de Chevalier recently told Bloomberg that the quality of his 2008 vintage has surprised him at every stage of production, and at one time he thought poor weather conditions may ruin the entire harvest.
