2008 Bordeaux 'features many fine wines'

There are many fine wines in the 2008 Bordeaux vintage, however concerns remain over excessive pricing.

According to Wine Spectator, 2008 was a good year for Bordeaux, although it is overshadowed by exceptional produce from 2005 and 2009.

The technical director of the First Growth vineyard Chateau Haut Brion, Jean-Philippe Delmas, told the publication that in the run of vintages from 2005 to 2009, 2008 was only felt to be superior to 2007.

That said, Wine Spectator explains that the wines are still fresh, focussed and balanced, and will attract buyers so long as prices are not pushed too high by Asian interest in all things Bordeaux.

Enthusiasm for wines from the region has been illustrated by the rising value of wines such Chateau Mouton Rothschild.

The 2008 vintage from this label is now 192.5 per cent more expensive than it was in November 2009, Decanter recently revealed.
