A London restaurant is to sell 1996 Chateau d'Yquem by the glass to its patrons, it has been revealed.
According to the London Evening Standard, a 150ml glass of the dessert wine will be available for £29, while a 50ml "super sip" will cost £14.50.
Soho restaurant Bob Bob Ricard is the one making the unusual move, with co-owner Leonid Shutov having bought 672 bottles of 1996 Chateau d'Yquem.
Mr Shutov expects this supply to last between nine months and a year, although he believes the offer will be popular with diners.
"A lot of people would rather spend £30 on a really amazing glass of wine like this than £30 on a bottle of plonk," he told the newspaper.
Single glasses of fine Bordeaux may be part of a larger revolution going on in fine dining.
Australian chef David Laris recently predicted that restaurants will seat fewer guests in future, as patrons look towards more intimate atmospheres for their dining experience.
